Centro de Artes Chaminé

With features neo-renaissance, the building has a chimney on the right side of 24 meters, built with bricks refractory compact, crowned by a chapel on cast iron. Therefore, it became known as the chimney.

Originally, the building was intended to be sewage treatment plant in the city. It was built in 1910 by the British company Improviments Manaos, the concessionaire for sanitation services, hired by the state government from 1906.

In 1913, the sewage treatment system had not yet begun to function when, revolted against the high fees, people destroyed the office of the company. The Manaos Improviments left unfinished health services and the plant has never worked.

Listed as a historic monument of the Amazon in 1988, the building was renovated in 1993 as an arts center chimney to house the State Art Gallery, with temporary exhibitions, and their activities suspended in 1997 due to a technical report of experts, the high degree of pollution and risk, and the works carried on in that urban area.

On November 14, 2002 the building, as already Chimney Mill was reopened as part of the actions of the Programme of Nature Conservation of Historic and Cultural Memory of the Amazon.

Mill Chimney aims mainly awakening in the community an artistic avant-garde concepts and ways of escape already presented without forgetting the traditional art forms.

In this sense, the observer will have the opportunity to confront the "new" and "traditional", thus forming its own concept of art.
