Rio Negro Palace

Scholz The Palace was built in eclectic style in 1903 to be the private residence of a wealthy merchant of rubber, the German Karl Waldemar Scholz. The Amazon was at the era of a more prosperous states of the Union at the Rubber Cycle.

From 1911, due to strong competition from Asian production gum trees on land, there was the imminent decline of the Amazon rubber trade. Moreover, with the advent of World War I, the shipping line between Manaus and Hamburg in Germany was broken, which greatly hurt the business of the Lord Scholz.

Scholz The Palace was first hired by the government of Amazonas a conto, through the then Governor, Dr. Pedro de Alcantara Bacellar that despite the economic crisis that struck down the Amazon, the shortcomings of the Treasury and criticism of his opponents, bought it in 1918 for 200 contos getting the name of Rio Negro Palace. From 1918 to 1959, therefore, the Mestrinho Bacellar, was the residence of the Governor and Government House. From 1959 to 1995, just as Seat of Government.

National Heritage State in 1980, the building before and after it was renovated, restored or adapted in some governments, and from 1997, because of its architectural beauty and historical importance, the Government of the Amazon, through the Secretariat Culture, the Cultural Center turned into.

The CCPRN, as it was known since its inception, serves, among tourists and local visitors, heads of state, ambassadors and other important persons when on a visit to the governor, having an office in this permanent exhibition, set for this, and other rooms that count, with the opulence of his eclectic furniture, much of the history of the golden period of the Belle Epoque.

Visitors, duly accompanied by bilingual guides, enjoy the comfort of free air-conditioned rooms, each one honoring a Governor of Amazonas along the history of the Republic.

Installed in the highest tower of the building is the observatory, which provides a privileged view of Manaus with its shady trees, still preserved when the construction of boulevards and buildings arising from the inexorable progress. The visitor can also see the regional traffic of vessels in the dark waters of Rio Negro: that both images depict the daily life of the Amazonian Caboclo.

Exhibitions, concerts, Live Design Book, lectures, meetings, official visits, launches literary and cultural entertainment rather have a name: Centro Cultural Palácio Rio Negro.
