Museum of Prehistory and Anthropology

Instituto Goiano de Pré-História e Antropologia Linked Condo Vice-Dean of Graduate Studies and Research at the Catholic University of Goias, Goias State Institute of Prehistory and Anthropology is often mistaken as the Museum of Anthropology. The Institute was born from the desire of the SCU to spreading knowledge about the Brazilian Indians. As such, coordinates, develops, directs and performs studies and research in anthropology, archeology, environment and education. The Institute has a fantastic collection of tapes, photos, videos, films, slides, books, postcards and pieces. The material comprises displays of Indian life through its material culture and seeks to educate visitors about the importance of cultural traditions for their livelihood. In Ethnological Exhibition observe decorations and ornaments of the Indians of Xingu, Central Brazil. They're among 87 pieces necklaces, earrings, labret, combs, bracelets, toggles, masks, and ciciares, plus 43 more instruments and items such as mats, baskets, bows and arrows and pottery vessels. One highlight is a collection of 52 pieces Karaja dolls, depicting scenes of everyday life that tribe. Its expression is manifested in art dolls made of pottery, called ritxoň. In this collection add up to fifteen other collections, also dolls, manufactured by different potters, achiral Institute, for a total of 208 pieces. The exhibition features one hundred colorful posters on the Indians of the Amazon and Central Brazil. The Archaeological remains contain ceramics, food, pieces of animal bones and human fossils and pieces. They tell the story of hunters, gatherers and gardeners in our state. There are also panels of rock paintings and fossil mammal and mollusc. The collection contains copies of the Environment vegetable palinoteca with collection of pollen slides, and vials containing carpoteca cerrado fruit. The Library recently opened is the result of donations and exchanges with other universities, museums, institutes and scientific products in the areas of ethnology, archeology and related sciences.
