International Festival of Environmental Film and Video

City of Goiás becomes, every June, on a big stage now, to live another edition of the Festival International Environmental Film and Video (FICA).

Designed by Luiz Felipe Gabriel Jaime Sautchuk, Adna France and Luis Gonzaga, the It emerged in 1999 as marking a new era of culture in Goiás, under the overall coordination of the filmmaker Joao Batista de Andrade. A little over two months from the date of its completion (2 to 6 June 1999), John the Baptist brought the regulation, established the awards - each award honors a person's culture Goias - and created the final format of the festival, among other action.

As a project of the State Government, through the Agency of Goiás Culture (Agepel), was behind ambitious goals, such as the value cinema, widely discussed environmental issues, win the title of World Heritage for the City of Goiás, move the cultural sector as a whole, generate wealth (such as culture and information), jobs and promoting tourism.

Thanks to the support and involvement of its directors, all of these goals were achieved in less time than expected. Since its inception, the festival seeks to strengthen itself as a stage in discussions of environmental issues within a broader concept that combines development with better quality of life on the planet. In this respect, It makes room for the discussion of sustainable development not only on screen but with workshops, round tables, lectures and other activities that lead to broader approach to environmental issues. By this line of action seeks to heighten awareness for the best man / nature.

The It is, in the City of Goiás, cultural cradle of the state, acquired strength and independence, marking himself as one of the most important events in the international film calendar. Since the first edition, the festival has described a path of growth and consolidation. One of the causes of this rise is the fact of having the largest award of its kind in Latin America: U.S. $ 240 000 in prizes.

Actually, It goes beyond cinema. It has a multicultural parallel programming, putting on stage shows that value creation in music, theater, dance and literature. The scope of the festival and the benefits are immense. During its execution, tourism expands, and with it the number of jobs. In the old capital of Goiás, circulate information, culture and interesting people from around the world. Anyway, the festival moves as a precious moment that history, culture and environment are on behalf of citizenship and a better quality of life for all.
