Jangadeiro and Fortaleza Museum

Jangadeiro Museum / Museum of Fortaleza:

Situated on the premises of Mucuripe Lighthouse, built in Baroque, its 1840 - 1846 construction of masonry, wood and iron represents one of the oldest buildings in Fortaleza. Has long been a reference to vessels docked in the harbour,  however, the old eye of the sea as it was known, was deactivated in 1957.  In the period 1981 to 1982, it  received his most significant reform in order to house the Museum of Jangadeiro current Museu do Farol (Lighthouse Museum).

Opened as a museum in 1990, the Lighthouse Museum is listed by the National Historic Landmark. Its collection is about the key moments and events that marked the capital of Ceará and its history through handicrafts and tools for fishermen, drawings, paintings, photographs, plans, models, excerpts from novels and testimonies from the colonial period to the present day. Also conducts temporary exhibitions showing the main events of the city.
