Palácio do Bispo

The palace was in the neighborhood Episcopal Outeiro, who is now the City Center. It was purchased in 1860 by the episcopate by deed before the Treasury of Finance on April 21, to Commander Joaquim Mendes Guimarães da Cruz and his wife Dona Joaquina and Colonel José Mendes Ribeiro Mendes da Cruz 60:000 Guimarães by the amount of $ 000, or So 60 contos, as authorized by the Ministry of Empire in Notice of March 12 this year cited.

Delivery of the building was held on June 21 of that year. The Bishopric was created by State Law No. 693 of August 10, 1853, confirmed by the bull animarum pro salute, of June 6, 1854, being elevated to Metropolitan Archbishop by Buia Cathollicœ Religionis Bonum, November 10, 1915.

The old photo of the building was hit in the second decade of this century and shows how the building was built with their sides.

In 1931 the building underwent a major renovation designed by architect José Barros practical Mala "Mainha", totally changed its facade, as seen when comparing the two pictures.

In 1973, when he was archbishop José Delgado, the building was sold to the City of Fortaleza and there they started the Municipal Palace, later, the administration of Mayor Anthony Batiste became operational in Itaperi, returning again to the palace that has made several reforms, but did not alter the facade of the building in its original form from the reform undertaken by Mainha.
