Palacete Ceará

The palace is one of Ceará most representative works of the early decades of this century (1920), a period when major changes occurred in the architectural appearance of the city.
Projected by architect João Sabóia Barbosa, the building was owned by Mr.José Gentil Alves de Carvalho having been built by Rodolfo F. Silva e Filho.

Its lines reveal elements inherent in the architectural eclecticism, with a predominance of neo-baroque. The palace originally consisted of spacious lounges, adjacents to the access ladder, where, on the ground floor, was a restaurant, known as Rôtisserie Sportman and in the upper floors, it housed, between 20 and 40, the famous "Club Iracema" high society and fashionable people meeting point in Fortaleza.

Victimized by fire on July 8, 1982, had its interior completely destroyed, saving, however, the facades facades in good condition, thus justifying its recovery. Protected by Tombo State according to Law No. 9109 of July 30, 1968, by Decree No. 16237 of November 30, 1983.

With the changes that came to town, especially after the end of the last war, new functions were given to the building that turned out to have its use degraded, suffering as a result, some interventions in the interiors. It was eventually acquired by Caixa Economica Federal in 1945, which adapted to new functions.
