The history of the Teatro José Maria Santos has its particularity. This scenic area was first opened in 1982 as "Theatre of Class" with the comedy "Four Nozzles Reputation"by Luiz Groff, directed by Orac Gemba.
Theater class was conceived by actor / director Jose Maria Santos Paraná since 1979 supported the view that the class teatraldeveria have a performance space itself, where the shows could be presented for long periods.
The building occupied by the theater, located in the historic section of Curitiba, belonged to an old knitting and was used by the city for rehearsals of samba schools, becoming known as the "Factory of Samba. "
That same area was installed a restaurant, "The Class Pub"is also intended for theatrical performances and concerts.
In May 1986, the theater is reopened under the name "Theatre of Thirteen in May, with performances of theatrical, dance, jazz, country music, classical, rock and happenings held on Mondays paranaense led by the great poet Paul Leminski As well as exhibitions of art and photography.
In 1998, the foundation officially reopened Teatro Guaira this space with the name "Jose Maria Santos Theatre"with the number "Seroc" Regina's Vogue, but on May 19, 1998 was made the first apresentaçãono theater during the VII International Puppet Festival, the show "Santo Aleixo".
