Curitiba Memorial
Memorial de Curitiba is a modern space designed to house multiple cultural activities, including exhibitions and musical and scenic, and preserve and expose the city's history. The space is also used for seminars, lectures, workshops, conferences, book launches, among other activities. Its facilities include showrooms.
Conceived in the 300 years of Curitiba, the Memorial was designed on modern lines, metal beams, side cover and transparent glass, in contrast to the centuries-old buildings in the historic section. Opened in 1996, the building has architectural design inspired by the Paraná pine, became a prominent cultural center of the city. It houses important works such as altarpieces altars Curitiba parish church, polychrome wood-carved 18th century, in which Pope John Paul II celebrated Mass when he was in Curitiba, and two scrolls and two shrines.
This space, called the Capela dos Fundadores (Chapel of the Founders), received paintings by the artist Sergio Ferro, where it is perceived expressive images of Curitiba history, since the presence of Portuguese, Indians, mestizos, cowboys and European immigrants. The artist also sign the Iguaçu Square´s panel, which refers to the discovery of Brazil.
The Memorial also permanently homes, at the lobby of Paranaguá Hall, the historic exhibition "The construction of a city" organized to commemorate Curitiba 316 years of foundation (2008), and the sculpture “O Bóia-fria em Curitiba”," by Expedito Rocha, in the lobby of the Brazi Hall.
