Festa do Pinhão
The main ingredient of food may differ from region to region. A truly Paraná camp does not exist without the pine nut. The city of St. Joseph of the Pines, in the metropolitan region of Curitiba, performs the Feast of the Pine Nut for 12 years in the month of June. The city celebrates the fruit of the tree from which its name originated thereby honoring the city and its traditional feast.
In its history, the Pine Nuts Festival (Festa do Pinhão), has amassed more than a million people. Organized by the Municipality, the festivities take place in June at the Pinhão Municipal Stadium and have become the principal feast of San José and southern Paraná.
Besides the food, the festival features cultural shows and attractions such as music concerts, rodeo art, horseback riding, election of the Boy and the Queen of the festival are part of the program. There are dozens of stalls with dishes prepared from the pinion. The average frequency is about 30 000 people in three days of festivities.
