Roberto Burle Marx Park
Opened in 1994, the area of approximately 170 000 m² once housed the old "House of Rest of the Mayor" of Belo Horizonte and "Lower City" - accommodation for children and adolescents at social risk.
Inserted in the ecological complex of the Serra do Rola-Moça, bordering the Sierra Corral, the park limits with the reserve to protect the Barreiro fountains . In it, one can find a small lake and several springs that form the stream of Clement, a tributary of the river Arrudas integrating the São Francisco River basin.
The vegetation is typical of the Cerrado, with field formations Cerrado and gallery forest. Among the species of riparian vegetation are: cinnamon, copaibas, alligators, and ingás jatoba. There are also species typical of transition between the Cerrado and Atlantic Forest, as barbatimão, pequi, pear and cinnamon stick emu. The park also has a garden with more than 100 species of medicinal plants such as mint, lemon grass, chamomile, aloe vera, comfrey, basil, fennel, camphor, etc. boldo.
The fauna consists of toucans, woodpeckers, thrushes, hawks, tanagers, Garrincha, owls, saracura, civets and monkeys-star, which can be seen on walks through the trails.
